LOLRede

January 29th 2008

This will make no sense to you if you don’t speak LOLCat, and haven’t read the Wiccan rede. However. For those of you that know both, Elisem has made an LOLCat version of the Wiccan rede, which surpasses the original by a fair bit.

Some highlights:

16. When teh Year-Wheel starts to spin, lite Beltane fire FTW!
17. When Wheel iz turned and Yule is bornz, bow to Teh Ceiling Cat With Hornz

And my personal favourite…

24. Misforchun? You has it, just a bit? Mai bloo star. Let me show you it.

Another rejection

January 25th 2008

They liked the story but all the editors felt it was part of something longer.

I fundamentally and wholeheartedly disagree, but I can see why they would say that. It is more vignette than plot-driven story.

I’m disappointed, since I’d really hoped for a better response – they kept the story for nearly 8 months before rejecting it (there was a handwritten apology for the delay at the bottom of the letter). I was hoping the delay meant ‘very definitely under consideration’. But, well, handwritten and personalized feedback is always nice, when you can’t have contracts and cheques.

It’s off to the next place on the list this weekend.

Ah well…

January 24th 2008

I bought Scott the complete boxed set of James Bond films for Christmas this year, and since we’ve been back we’ve started working our way through them in order.

Two nights ago, we watched Goldfinger, and I have some to a realization that makes me a little sad.

I don’t like James Bond films.

It’s not that I hate them, but they’re definitely not my thing. I find the plots absurd, I think Bond is a moron, and I don’t find Connery sexy.

Ah well.

Writing again

January 21st 2008

I know, I know, it’s been pretty quiet ’round here of late. I haven’t had a whole lot to say, other than things are good, so I’ve just been quiet.

Things are starting to pick up at work, and they’re letting me write again. Well, ‘letting me’ is a misnomer, since they weren’t stopping me before, but right now I have actual script to write, and before it was all just planning stuff.

The scriptwriting process so far has been very fun and very collaborative, and I’m learning tons about what I can do, what I can’t do, and how to shut up and let the artists tell the story with their pictures. It’s a video game, cutscenes have to be short and snappy, and get the point across.

We had a really good day on Friday, once the script was written and the storyboard was roughed in, the Animation Director, Effects Guy and I wandering back and forth, scripts in hand, moving stuff around, taking out stuff that was extraneous, making changes.

At the end of the day the Animation Director came over and shook my hand. “Really good work this week,” he said. And I agreed. It was a really great day.

Whoops! Late for the gym! Gotta run!

Repeat after me…

January 15th 2008

I will not take up knitting socks.
(No heel! And cute! A perfect starter pattern!)
I will not take up knitting socks.
(So crazy and silly with the colours!)
I will not take up knitting socks.
(But…so pretty….)

I designed a quilt this morning, or mostly. More are coming. No! No knitting!

Who has…

January 14th 2008

I know I lent out my copies of “Dime Store Magic” and “Industrial Magic” by Kelley Armstrong — who has them?

(Actually, if you have any of my books, please post in the comments, just so I know. I’m not asking for anything back yet.)
