About Me
Montreal, April 17, 2004I currently live in Montreal, but if you asked me where I consider "home", I'd definitely tell you it's Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I was born. I love Montreal, but my heart is by the ocean and I get back there whenever I can. (Hence the wind and waves of this website's title).
I have two university degrees, both from schools in Halifax. The first is a Bachelor of Arts at Mount Saint Vincent University, the second is a Bachelor of Journalism at the University of King's College.
I am known among my friends as the Tough Love Muse of Montreal. I got this title because I have a lot of creative friends: artists, writers and various other types. I realized one day that many of these incredibly talented people weren't actually creating anything, so I resolved to do something about it. Now I call them up regularly and ask them what they're doing. Are they creating and if not, why aren't they? You can find out more about this (what I call "creative butt-kicking") in my creativity section.
I'm a writer at heart and by career. I'm currently working on a book on spirituality and creativity. Mostly I write slipstream fantasy, but I write both fiction and non-fiction. I have participated for the past two years in a great adventure/experiment called National Novel Writing Month or Nanowrimo where you write 50,000 words in the month of November. I've written two novels this way and I plan to write a collection of linked short stories this coming November.
I'm a Wiccan priestess, currently following my own spiritual path, and also the traditions of the Black Forest Clan. My faith is a very important part of who I am, but a discussion of my beliefs is much too complicated to get into in a short introduction! If you'd like to know more, you can see what I have posted in my Spirituality section.
I love to make things, be it stories or necklaces or clothes or Christmas tree ornaments. I learned to sew and how to make all kinds of crafts from my two grandmothers. Mostly I make quilts and costumes.
I like chatting with people, so don't hesitate to drop me an e-mail if the notion strikes you and you have something to say or questions to ask.
